Today in gifted we starting working on a project about National Parks. We are probably going to make a glogster about them. There is a good website about them. We all mostly wanted to do the really famous ones but found some other really cool ones.We have been working on greek myths alot so now we are working on Greek Myth Skits which will be really fun. So we have alot to work on in the next few weeks!!

Today in the class room we were visited Mrs. Holstman came and told us about this neat site called glogster, which you can make your on webpage and tell about yourself or other things. Mrs. Zawis told us to make one and to tell about one of the gods in our comics of myths I and my group did one about Zeus and we thouth it was amazing . I will never forget this glogiest day forever and I hope you don't forget about it to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today in gifted we had a Cummer video stream and we learned about how artist think and also about still lifes we saw every thing that was there like on a actual visit it was so cool and everyone worked together and we also learned about greek mythology!!!

Gifted missing peaces

Today in gifted we made are own versions of stories with holes and we called them missing peaces. It would be a story missing some information to the story and you have to figure out what happened.Here is an example by Carli and Brook: A bird sings every morning and was bothering Paul, his owner.Paul then decided to get rid of the bird and crushed it with a hammer.There was no blood and the bird was not harmed but it never sang again.The answer is that the bird is a cuckoo clock.
We also sent thank you cards to soldiers over seas by Internet and by mail where we got to customize them both ways.It was so fun!

Greek Goldberg

Today we learned about Greek mythology and even made our own versions of greek myths.We got to make paintings inspired by Georgia O'Keefe's artwork.We learned more about Rube Goldberg and how he loved to make comics that show how Americans make things more challenging than they need to be.

The myths we learned were the ones of Pandora's Box, Arachne and Athena. We also learned of the history of greek mythology and different cultures.Many myths date back to 40,000 bc and are still around today.

Rube Golberg was well know for his comics and "inventions". He would show how to be sure you remember to mail your wife's letter (shown above) and many , many more.

Gifted Goldberg

Today we learned about Rube Goldberg, the cartoonist, and his inventions(cartoons). We also made our own Rube Goldberg inventions and figured out how to make a"Better mouse trap." He makes simple things become so complicated.He made a character called Professor Butts.For example, he needs to do a simple task to remember to mail a letter. But he makes it complicated and makes a whatcha-ma-callit that reminds him to mail the letter.

Today we practiced the musical. A lot!!! It's called Top 40!!! It has songs like Rockin' Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu, Material Girl, and Twist and Shout. It's a bunch of fun!! We worked on dance moves and places on the risers. We will get our lines soon also. The musical will be January 22nd and 23rd at 7:00pm (22nd) and 9:30 and again at 10:15 (23rd). It will be awesome!!! Be sure to come! No seriously it's too awesome to miss!!!!! Ladies and gentlemen,it's Top 40!

Deep Space Lab

Today we learn about deep space and that our sun was a dying star and when the sun dies it eats itself and becomes a black hole and a black hole sucks up everything (even light!!!) and turns it into corks (which is the smallest thing known to man kind) 2 black holes would be a wormhole and if suck into it you would throuh it at a trilleouth of a secound and come out the other side!
also we learn how to make a 4 dimensional cube out of marshmallows and tooth picks called a tesseract. Tesseracts are 8 celled cubes also known as octachorons. that's mostly what was enteresting about gifted today!!!!!!!!!!!!

bridge to technology

So last Thursday, we showed our principal,Ms Phillips how to do photostory. Photostory is a program that lets you make slide shows using photos, images, cool fonts, narrate, and add special effects. We made ours about bridges suspensions,beams and archs it was loads of fun.! And we got our parts for the musical too! Ms Phillips didnt even write anything down cause she was learning. We can compose music on photstory which is my favorite part. We also made some suspension bridges out of of books and strings and paper. You would not believe how many books they were able to hold. Our record was about 35 books, a bunch of army figurines, and cubes. It was awesome!!!!!!!Ally

Bridge Brigade!

Over the past few weeks, we have been working on a "bridges" unit. We've studied the arch bridge, beam bridge, and suspension bridge. The forces that allow these bridges to function successfully are tension and compression. When something is in compression, it is being "pushed" so to speak, and when something is in tension it is being "pulled." These forces often act together on a bridge. There are over half a million bridges in the US and we rely on them every day to cross rivers, lakes, streams, railroad tracks and more. We have had a lot of fun constructing these bridges ourselves in order to understand how they work. We've acted out arches, pushing and pulling to demonstrate tension and compression, we've built trusses (triangular framed) bridges, and plan to try our hand at building suspension bridges next week. Can you think of any examples of bridges that you see regularly or have seen in the past? Are they arches, beams, or suspension bridges? They are all amazing structures and interesting to learn about! Want to learn more? fun fab day in gifted

today in gifted we got to do a mythbusters experiment on yawning. we where wondering if yawning was contagious. so like in a mythbusters episode. we had two groups a control group who just did something with the experimental kids and none of us experimental people yawned and observed what hapened. then in the other group, the experimental group did the same but 1 of us yawned and observed we found that yawning probly is not contagious because we tested a few students from a class and one of us yawned to see if anyone else yawned. then i the control group we did not yawn to see if they just yawned because they were bored. you to can try it!

Happy Halloween!!! Well,tomorrow at least. But today we finished up our skeletons. "What skeletons" you ask well check out the previous post, A BONEY DAY. We also finished our freezing experiment. But this time we did it on the little playground with the first graders. I heard them say,"why is everyone a statue?" and "I think they are dead!" It was very cool to see the two different reactions.
Last year, we did a lot of logic problems and today we did one about ghosts. Were did Susie Spooky live and what weather she haunted in. It was a great day!!

Today was another great gifted day.One of the things we did today was with skeletons.Because Halloween is next week it was the perfect project.We learned the scientific names of the bones and what they are commonly called.Did you know that your toes and fingers are called phalanges?Well they are.Once we knew what the bones were called we cut paper plates into the shape of the different bones.We put the bones together to form a skeleton.
Today we also learned more songs to our musical and played a little chess.Over all it was a great gifted day.

Today was an awsome day of gifted!We went on a field trip to the World Golf Village and we saw an IMAX movie. The part were the man told us about the science behind golf,Was great,we learned about the rules of golf ,like you can only have 14 clubs in your golfing bag that you can use and many more rules.We also saw an amazing movie called WILD OCEAN which is about and ocean located in Africa and about the oceans ecosystem and what we can do to help with ocean,like not fishing alot because the other animals also need to feed on fish!!!!This spectacular day of gifted was also gifted's first field trip this year!!YEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today was an awsome day of gifted!the chess teacher from landstar came to teach us about strategy. He even brought a parter with him to help us.Around the end of the day the wonderful Mrs. Zawis told us about bridges and we made one each out of two dictonares and a paper,then we placed army men on top, my record was 16.We also commented on other poeples blogs to see what they are doing. Some of those people were teachers of sibilings and teachers we know much. This was a wonderful day!!!!

Today we had a very special guest, star chess player who volunteered to teach our class about chess. He talked about the pawns, the rooks, the knights, the bishops, the queen, and the king. The only piece that can jump is the knights and if you get a pawn to our opponents side and.. Wellll... lets just say it was spectacular and we get to actually play next thursday!! Chess is all about mental strategies. Also have you ever heard of or read a TIME magazine? Well, we actually got to make our own covers and listed a sub-heading about our future goals.We drew a picture of of our future selves on the front cover of an issue of TIME magazine. It was "Super!" fun and you can do it too!!

Shape Up and Mysteries of the World

In Mrs. Zawis' class today we played a game called Shape Up were you sat back to back with another person and tried to copy the other persons design they made from the shapes. But only one person can talk! The listener has to try to copy the shape design that the speaker has in front of them ...exactly. They cannot ask any questions at all- the speaker has to be very exact in their explanation. They compare designs when they finish to see whether they match. We can really work on our direction giving and listening skills! We got to research the mysteries of the world and make wikis.One of them was Easter Island, another was mystery spots, bermuda triangle, and Amelia Earheart's disappearance.

the first thing we did was Geography Rhyme time where they give you a questions and you find the country, state, or city that rhymes with somthing else like the empire state bacon was new york pork super hard. next we did the rubber band design where we think of a design made mostly out of rubber bands you have to make somethig origanal. did I mention that it was a contest? finally we did a hard Stories With Holes no one coud figure it out but we finally did!

Awesome day of Gifted Take 2!

Today was another great day of Gifted! We finished up our cubism project. If you don't know what that is, it is inspired by Pablo Picasso. Read the other blog by Carli to find out more.

We also made a Wiki about famous scientists. A Wiki is not a word in a rap, it is place to post or find out information. And you can edit a Wiki to add more. Brook and I did our Wiki on Thomas Edison. Be sure to check out ALL of the Wikis on eminent scientists.

A Wiki Wacky Day

The first day of gifted was simply magnificent!W started off with some self portraits and not like our face....OUR NAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!we drew our names with our personality and hobbies.
We then stared busting our brains by finding states and countries in different sentences.For example:We went to the beach in a boat.and the answer is china.
We also learned about Picasso and did a cubism project.
And my favorite part WE STARTED THE MUSICAL!And i can't wait to find out some more songs.Can you tell that we have had a magnificent day in gifted.We've started learning about wiki's which is where you can go and edit information on different things and add to it . We are doing wiki's about different scientists.
